HSG.} nāda utpadyate | tatra vaikharīnādo vahneḥ phūtkārādivan madhyamānādotsāhakaḥ, madhyamānādaḥ sphoṭaṃ vyañjayatīti śīghram eva tato 'rthabodhaḥ | parasya vilambenānubhavasiddhatvāt | ata eva «śrotropalabdhir buddhinirgrāhyaḥ prayogeṇābhijvalita ākāśadeśaḥ śabdaḥ» ityākaragranthas saṃgacchate | katvādinā śrotropalabdhitvaṃ sphoṭātmakapadādirūpeṇa tu buddhinirgrāhyatvaṃ, sa ca prayogeṇa vaikharīrūpeṇābhijvalitaḥ svarūparūṣitaḥ kṛta iti tadarthaḥ | tatrāpi śakyatvasyaiva śaktatāvacchedikāyā varṇapadavākyaniṣṭhajāter vācakatvam | tad uktam [76] anekavyaktyabhivyaṅgyā jātiḥ sphoṭa iti smṛteti | tasmād aṣṭavidhasphoṭātmakaś śabdo vṛttyāśrayaḥ | vastutas tu vākyasphoṭo vākyajātisphoṭa eva vā vṛttyāśrayaḥ | tata eva loke 'rthabodha ityādy uktatvād iti sarvaṃ sustham | iti sphoṭanirūpaṇam || atha śabdabodhasahakārikāraṇāni ākāṅkśā yogyatā āsatti tātparyāṇi | vākyasamayagrāhikā ākāṅkśā | sā caikapadārthajñāne tadarthānvayayogyārthasya yaj jñānaṃ tadviṣayecchā asyānvayyarthaḥ kaḥ ity evaṃrūpā puruṣaniṣṭhaiva [77] tathāpi tasyāḥ svaviṣaye 'rthe āropaḥ | ayam artho 'rthāntaram ākāṅkṣatīti vyavahārāt | idam evābhidhānāparyavasānam ity ucyate | pade tu nāropāḥ, arthabodhottaram evākāṅkṣodayāt | padaṃ sākāṅkṣam iti tu sākāṅkṣārthabodhakam ity arthakam | tad uktaṃ samarthasūtre bhāṣye parasparavyapekṣāṃ sāmarthyam eke | kā punaś śabdayor vyapekṣā na brūmaś śabdayor iti kiṃ tarhi arthayor iti [78] īdṛśajijñāsotthāpakaṃ caikapadārthe 'parapadārthavyatirekaprayuktasyānvayabodhājanakatvasya jñānam iti tadviṣaye tādṛśānvayabodhajanakatve 'py ākāṅkṣeti vyavahāraḥ | yad vā utthāpakatāvisayatānyatarasaṃbandhenobhayasaṃbandhena vā 'rthāntarajijñāsā ākāṅkṣā | ādyam «paśya mṛgo dhāvati» ity atra, darśanārthasya kārakadhāvanākāṅkṣotthāpakatvaṃ dhāvanaṃ tu tadviṣaya eva | antyaṃ tu «pacati [79] taṇḍulaṃ devadattaḥ» ityādau, kriyākārakayor dvayor api parasparaṃ tadutthāpakatvāt tadviṣayatvāc ca | ata eva ghaṭaḥ karmatvam ānayanaṃ kṛtir ity ato ghaṭam ānayetivan nānvayabodhaḥ | ākāṅkṣāvirahāt | ghaṭam ānayeti vibhaktyantākhyātantayor eva sākāṅkṣātvāc ca || yogyatā ca parasparānvayaprayojakadharmavattvam | tena payasā siñcatīti yogyam | asti ca sekānvayaprayojakadravadravyatvaṃ yogyatā jale, kāraṇatvena jalānvayaprayojakārdrīkaraṇatvaṃ yogyatā sekakriyāyām | ata eva vahninā siñcatīti vākyam ayogyam | vahneḥ sekānvayaprayojakadravadravyatvābhāvāt [80] etādṛśasthaleṣu nānvayabodhaḥ kiṃ tu pratyekaṃ padārthabodhamātram iti naiyāyikāḥ | tan na | bauddhārthasyaiva sarvatra bodhaviṣayatvena bādhasyābhāvāt | harir apy āha | «atyantāsaty api hy arthe jñānaṃ śabdaḥ karoti ca» iti | ato vandhyāsutādiśabdānāṃ prātipadikatvaṃ | vahninā siñcatīty ato bodhābhāve [81] tadvākyaprayoktāraṃ prati «adraveṇa vahninā kathaṃ sekaṃ bravīṣi» ity upahāsānāpatteś ca | vākyārthabodhe jāte buddhārthaviṣaye pravṛttis tu na bhavati buddhārthe 'prāmāṇyagrahād ity anyatra vistaraḥ || prakṛtānvayabodhānanukūlapadāvyavadhānam āsattiḥ | «girir agnimān» ityāsannam | anāsannaṃ ca «girir bhuktam agnimān devadattena» iti | āsattir api mandabuddher avilambena śābdabodhe kāraṇam | amandabuddhes tv āsattyabhāve 'pi [82] padārthopasthitāv ākāṅkṣādito 'vilambenaiva bodho bhavatīti na bodhe tasyāḥ kāraṇatvam | dhvanitaṃ cedam na padāntasūtre bhāṣye | sthālyām odanaṃ pacatīty ādau sthālyām ity asyaudanapadena vyavadhāne saty api prakṛtānvayabodhānukūlatvād āsannatvākṣatiḥ | ity āsattinirūpaṇam [83] etad padaṃ vākyaṃ vā etadarthabodhāyoccāraṇīyam itīśvarecchā tātparyam | ata eva sati tātparye sarve sarvārthavācakāḥ iti śābdikanaye ghaṭaśabdāt paṭapratyayo netyādy uktam | nānārthasthale loke tātparyan tu «etat padaṃ vākyaṃ vā etadarthapratyayāya mayoccāryate» iti prayoktur icchārūpam | tātparyaniyāmakaṃ ca loke prakaraṇādikam eva | ato bhojanaprakaraṇe saindhavam ānayety ukte saindhavapadena lavaṇapratyayaḥ, yuddhāvasare 'śvapratyayaḥ | vedavākye caiśvaratātparyād arthabodhaḥ [84] nanu prakaraṇādīnāṃ śaktiniyāmakatve śaktyaiva nirvāhe kin tātparyeṇeti cen na | asmāc chabdād arthadvayaviśeṣyako bodho jāyate, arthadvaye śaktisattvāt | tātparyaṃ tu kveti na jānīma ity anubhavavirodhāt | ata eva ca paya ānayety ukte 'prakaraṇajñasya dugdhaṃ jalaṃ vā āneyam iti praśnaḥ saṃgacchate || atha sakalaśabdamūlabhūtatvād dhātvartho nirūpyate | tatra phalānukūlo yatnasahito vyāpāro dhātvarthaḥ | phalatvaṃ ca taddhātvarthajanyatve sati kartṛpratyayasamabhivyāhāre taddhātvarthaniṣṭhaviśeṣyatānirūpitaprakāratāvattvam | vibhāgajanyasaṃyogādirūpe patatyādidhātvarthe vibhāgasaṃyogayoḥ phalatvavāraṇāyobhayam | karmapratyayasamabhivyāhāre tu phalasya viśeṣyatā | [85] vyāpāratvaṃ ca dhātvarthaphalajanakatve sati dhātuvācyatvaṃ | anukūlatvaṃ saṃsargaḥ | anukūlatvaṃ ca phalaniṣṭhajanyatānirūpitajanakatvam [86-87] bhāvapradhānam ākhyātaṃ sattvapradhānāni nāmāni iti niruktokter vyāpāramukhyaviśeṣyako bodhaḥ | tatra tiṅvācyaṃ saṃkhyāviśiṣtakārakam, kālaś ca vyāpāraviśeṣaṇam [88] pare tu phalavyāpārayoḥ dhātoḥ pṛthakśaktāv uddeśyavidheyabhāvenānvayāpattis tayoḥ syāt | pṛthagupasthitayos tathā anvayasyautsargikatvāt | kiñcaikapade vyutpattidvayakalpane 'tigauravam [89] tathā hi phalaviśeṣaṇakavyāpārabodhe kartṛpratyayasamabhivyāhṛtadhātujanyopasthitiḥ kāraṇam, vyāpāraviśeṣaṇakaphalabodhe karmapratyayasamabhivyāhṛtadhātujanyopasthitiḥ kāraṇam iti kāryakāraṇabhāvadvayakalpanam, dhātor arthadvaye śaktidvayakalpanam, dhātor bodhajanakatvasambandhadvayakalpanaṃ cātigauravam | tasmāt phalāvacchinne vyāpāre, vyāpārāvacchinne phale ca, dhātūnāṃ śaktiḥ, kartṛkarmārthakatattatpratyayasamabhivyāhāraś ca tattadbodhe niyāmaka ity āhuḥ [90] yat tu mīmāṃsakāḥ | phalaṃ dhātvartho vyāpāraḥ pratyayārtha iti vadanti | tan na | «laḥ karmaṇi» ityādisūtravirodhāpatteḥ | na hi tena vyāpārasya pratyayārthatā labhyate | kiñca pacati pakṣyati pakvavān ityādau phūtkārādipratītaye tatrānekapratyayānāṃ śaktikalpanāpekṣayaikasya dhātor eva śaktikalpanocitā | kiñca phūtkārādeḥ pratyayārthatve gacchatīty ādau tatpratītivāraṇāya tadbodhe pacisamabhivyāhārasyāpi kāraṇatvakalpane 'tigauravam [91-92] kiñca sakarmakākarmakavyavahārocchedāpattiḥ | na ca pratyayārthavyāpāravyadhikaraṇaphalavācakatvaṃ sakarmakatvam, tanmate tatsamānādhikaraṇaphalavācakatvam akarmakatvaṃ ca, pratyayārthavyāpārāśrayatvaṃ kartṛtvaṃ, ghaṭaṃ bhāvayatīty ādau ṇijarthavyāpāravyadhikaraṇaphalāśrayatvena ghaṭādeḥ karmatvam iti vācyam | abhidhānānabhidhānavyavasthocchedāpatteḥ | na ca vyāpāreṇāśrayākṣepāt kartur abhidhānam, karmākhyāte ca pradhāṇena phalena svāśrayākṣepāt karmaṇo 'bhidhānam iti vācyam | jātiśaktivāde jatyākṣiptavyakter ivāśrayaprādhānyāpattau «kriyāpradhānam{kriyāpradhānam (les deux éditions), pour la normale bhāvapradhānam.} ākhyātam» iti yāskavaco virodhāpatteḥ [93] kiñca phalasya dhātunā tadāśrayasya cākṣepeṇa lābhasaṃbhavena «laḥ karmaṇi» ity asya vaiyarthyāpatteḥ | karmakartṛkṛtāṃ kārakabhāvanobhayavācakatve gauravāc ca | kiñca bhāvavihitaghañādīnāṃ vyāpārāvācakatve grāmo gamanavān ityādyāpattiḥ | tadvācakatve tenāpi svāśrayākṣepe kartur abhidhānāpattiḥ | kiñca «guruḥ śiṣyābhyāṃ pācayati» ityādau «hetumati ca» iti sūtrabalāt prayojakavyāpārasya ṇijarthatve sthite prayojyavyāpāra ākhyātārtho vācyaḥ [94] evañ ca saṃkhyāyāḥ svavācakākhyātārthavyāpāre 'nvayiny evā 'nvayāc chiṣyābhyām iti dvivacanānāpattiḥ | pācayatīty ekavacanānāpattiś ca | guror anbhidhānena tatra prathamāyā anāpatteś ca | śiṣyaśabdāt tadāpatteś cety anyatra vistaraḥ | sarvakārakānvayitāvacchedakadharmavatī kriyā | tad āha yāvat siddham asiddhaṃ vā sādhyatvenābhidhīyate āśritakramarūpatvāt sā kriyety abhidhīyate || guṇabhūtair avayavaiḥ samūhaḥ kramajanmanām buddhyā HSG.} [197] saṃkhyāpi nāmārthaḥ | vibhaktīnāṃ dyotakatvāt | ata eva «ādirñiṭuḍavaḥ» iti sūtre ādir iti bahutve ēkavacanam | vācyatve 'nvayavyatirekābhyāṃ jasaṃ vinā nāmārthabahutvapratītyabhāvāpatteḥ [198] kārakam api prātipadikārtha iti pañcakaṃ prātipadikārthaḥ | nanv anvayavyatirekābhyāṃ pratyayasyaiva tad vācyam iti cet, na | dadhi tiṣṭhati, dadhi paśyety ādau kartrādikārakapratīteḥ pratyayaṃ vināpi siddhatvāt | na ca luptapratyayasmaraṇāt tatpratītir iti vācyam, pratyayalopam ajānato 'pi nāmata eva tatpratīteḥ | viśeṣaṇatayā śabdo 'pi śābdabodhe bhāsate | yudhiṣṭhira āsīd ityādau yudhiṣṭhiraśabdavācyaḥ kaścid āsīd iti bodhāt | na so 'sti pratyayo loke yaḥ śabdānanugamād ṛte anuviddham iva jñānaṃ sarvaṃ śabdena bhāsate || ity abhiyuktokteḥ | grāhyatvaṃ grāhakatvaṃ ca dve śaktī tejaso yathā tathaiva sarvaśabdānām ete pṛthag avasthite || viṣayatvam anādṛtya śabdair nārthaḥ prakāśyate | iti vākyapadīyāc ca [199-200] ata eva «viṣṇum uccāraya» ityādāv arthoccāraṇāsaṃbhavāc chabdapratītiḥ | ata evānukaraṇenānukāryasvarūpapratītiḥ | tathā hi svasadṛśaśabdamātrabodhatātparyakoccāraṇaviṣayatvam anukaraṇatvam | svasadṛśaśabdapratipādyatve sati śabdatvam anukāryatvam | tatrānukāryād anukaraṇaṃ bhidyate iti tayor bhedavivakṣāyām anukāryasvarūpapratipādakatvenārthavattvāt prātipadikatvāt svādividhiḥ | bhedapakṣajñāpakaḥ «bhuvo vug luṅliṭoḥ» ityādi nirdeśaḥ [201] anukāryād anukaraṇam abhinnam ity abhedavivakṣāyāṃ cārthavattvābhāvān na prātipadikatvam, na vā padatvam | abhedapakṣajñāpakas tu «bhū sattāyām» ityādi nirdeśaḥ | prātipadikatvapadatvābhāve 'pi «bhū» ityādi sādhu bhavaty eva [202] nanu «apadaṃ na prayuñjīta» iti bhāṣyād asādhv idam iti cet, na | apadam ity asya hi apariniṣṭhitam ity arthaḥ | pariniṣṭhitatvaṃ ca apravṛttanityavidhyuddeśyatāvacchedakānākrāntatvam | devadatto bhavaty ityādau «tiṅatiṅaḥ» iti nighāte jāte 'tiṅantapadaparatiṅantatvarūpoddeśyatāvacchedakasattve apariniṣṭhitatvavāraṇāya apravṛtteti | «svarati» ityādi vikalpasūtrasya pākṣikapravrttau «seddhā» ityādāv asādhutvavāraṇāya nityavidhīti | abhedapakṣe tu «arthavat» iti sūtrasyārthavattvarūpoddeśyatāvacchedakānākrāntatvāt sūtrāpravṛttāv api «bhū» ityādi pariniṣṭhitam | pariniṣṭhitasādhuśabdau paryāyau | nanv anukaraṇasyānukāryasvarūpabodhakatvasyābhāvena katham anukāryasvarūpapratītir iti cet «sādṛśyākhyasaṃbandhena» iti gṛhāṇa | yathā maitrasadṛśapiṇḍadarśane maitrasmaraṇam | evaṃ bhū ityādy anukaraṇajñāne tādṛśānukāryasya jñānam iti saṅkṣepaḥ | atha samāsādivṛttyarthaḥ vṛttis dvidhā [203] jahatsvārthā 'jahatsvārthā ca | avayavārthanirapekṣatve sati samudāyārthabodhikatvaṃ jahatsvārthatvam | avayavārthasaṃvalitasamudāyārthabodhikatvam ajahatsvārthatvam | rathantaraṃ sāmabhedaḥ, śuśrūṣā sevā iti pūrvasyā udāharaṇam | rājapuruṣa ityādāv antyā | samāsādipañcasu viśiṣṭe eva śaktir na tv avayave | rathantaraṃ saptaparṇaḥ śuśrūṣetyādau avayavārthānubhavābhāvāt | ata eva bhāṣye vyapekṣāpakṣam udbhāvya «athaitasmin vyapekṣāyāṃ sāmarthye yo 'sāv ekārthībhāvakṛto viśeṣaḥ sa vaktavyaḥ» ity uktam | dhavakhadirau niṣkauśāmbiḥ goratho ghṛtaghaṭo guḍadhānāḥ keśacūḍaḥ suvarṇālaṃkāro dvidaśāḥ saptaparṇa ityādau sāhityakrāntayuktapūrṇamiśrasaṅghātavikārasucpratyayalopavīpsādyarthāḥ vācanikā vācyā iti tadbhāṣyāśayaḥ [204] yat tu vyapekṣāvādino naiyāyikamīmāṃsakādayaḥ | na samāse śaktiḥ | rājapuruṣa ityādau rājapadādeḥ saṃbandhini lakṣaṇayaiva rājasaṃbandhavadabhinnaḥ puruṣa iti bodhāt | ata eva rājñaḥ padārthaikadeśatvān na tatra ṛddhasyetyādiviśeṣaṇānvayaḥ | «padārthaḥ padārthenānveti na tu padārthaikdeśena» ity ukteḥ | «saviśeṣaṇānāṃ vṛttir na vṛttasya ca viśeṣaṇayogo na» ity ukteś ca | na vā [205] ghanaśyāmo niṣkauśāmbir goratha ityādāv ivādi prayogāpattiḥ | lakṣaṇayaivoktārthatayā «uktārthānām aprayogaḥ» iti nyāyena ivādīnām aprayogāt | nāpi «vibhāṣā» iti sūtram āvaśyakam, lakṣaṇayā rājasaṃbandhyabhinna iti bubodhayiṣāyāṃ samāsasya, rājasaṃbandhavān iti bubodhayiṣāyāṃ vigrahasya ca, prayoganiyamasaṃbhavāt | nāpi «śaktiḥ paṅkajaśabdavat»{paṅkajaśabdatvāt, éd. HSG.} iti paṅkajaśabdapratidvandvitā śaktisādhikā | tatrāvayavaśaktim ajānato 'pi tato bodhāt | na ca śaktyagrahe lakṣaṇayā tasmād viśiṣṭārthapratyayaḥ saṃbhavati | ata eva rājapadādiśaktyagrahe rājapuruṣa ityādisu na bodhaḥ | na ca citragur ityādau lakṣaṇāsaṃbhave 'py aṣaṣṭḥyarthabahuvrīhau lakṣaṇāyāḥ asaṃbhavaḥ, bahuvyutpatti[206]bhañjanāpattir iti vācyam | prāptodaka ityādau udakapade eva lakṣaṇāsvīkārāt | pūrvapadasya yaugikatvena tatra lakṣaṇāyā dhātupratyayatadarthajñānasādhyatayā vilaṃbitatvāt [207] pratyayānāṃ saṃnihitapadārthagatasvārthabodhakatvavyutpattyanurodhāc ca | ghaṭādipade cātiriktā śaktiḥ kalpyamānā pratyekaṃ varṇeṣu bodhakatve 'pi viśiṣṭe kalpyate, viśiṣṭasyaiva saṃketitatvāt | prakṛte cātyantasannidhānena pratyayānvayasaulabhyāyottarapade eva lakṣaṇā kalpyata iti viśeṣaḥ | svīkṛtaṃ ca ghaṭādipadeṣv api caramavarṇasyaiva vācakatvaṃ mīmāṃsakaṃmanyair ity āhuḥ | atrocyate | samāse śaktyasvīkāre viśiṣṭasyārthavattvābhāvena prātipadikatvaṃ na syāt | ata evārthavatsūtre bhāṣye «arthavad iti kim [208] arthavatāṃ samudāyo 'narthakaḥ, daśa dāḍimāni ṣaḍ pūpāḥ kuṇḍam ajājinam»{ajā 'jinam, éd. HSG.} iti pratyudāhṛtam | evaṃ ca rājapuruṣapadayos tvanmate pratyekam arthavattve 'pi samudāyasya daśadāḍimānivad anarthakatvāt prātipadikatvānāpatteḥ | na ca «kṛttaddhita» iti sūtre samāsagrahaṇāt tatsaṃjñeti vācyam | tasya niyamārthatayā bhāṣyakṛtaiva pratipāditatvāt | anyathā siddhiṃ vinā niyamāyogāt | ata eva rājñaḥ puruṣo, devadattaḥ pacatītyādivākyasya, mūlakenopadaṃśam ityādeś ca na prātipadikatvam kiñca samāse śaktyasvīkāre śakyasaṃbandharūpalakṣaṇāyā apy asaṃbhavena lākṣaṇikārthavattvasyāpy asaṃbhavena sarvathā prātipadikatvābhāva eva niścitaḥ syād iti svādyanutpattau «apadaṃ na prayuñjīta» iti bhāṣyāt samastaprayogavilayāpatteḥ || atha tiptasjhīty ataḥ tīty ārabhya ṅyossubiti pakāreṇa tippratyāhāro{titpratyāhāro, éd. HSG.} bhāsyasiddhaḥ, tatparyudāsena «atip prātipadikam» ity eva sūtryatām, tataḥ «samāsaś ca» iti sūtraṃ niyamārtham astu kiṃ sūtradvayeneti suptiṅantabhinnaṃ [209] prātipadikam ity arthāt samāsasyāpi sā syād iti «samāsaś ca» ity asya niyamārthatvaṃ sulabham iti cet, satyam | pratyekaṃ varṇeṣu saṃjñāvāraṇāya «arthavat» ity asyāvaśyakatvena samāse 'vyāptis tadavasthaiva | tathā ca prātipadikasaṃjñārūpakāryam evārthavattvam anumāpayati | samāso 'rthavān prātipadikatvāt | yan nārthavat tan na prātipadikam | abhedavivakṣāpakṣe «bhū sattāyām» ityādy anukaraṇavad iti [210] yat tu «padārthaḥ padārthenānveti» iti «vṛttasya viśeṣaṇayogo na» iti vācanadvayena ṛddhasyetyādi viśeṣaṇānvayo na bhavati, tat tu samāse ekārthībhāve svīkṛte 'vayavānāṃ nirarthakatvena viśeṣaṇānvayāsaṃbhavāt phalitārthaparam asmākaṃ, yuṣmākaṃ tu apūrvavācanikam iti gauravam ity agre vakṣyate [211] yat tu pratyayānāṃ sannihitapadārthagatasvārthabodhakatvavyutpattir iti tan na | upakumbham ardhapippalīty ādau pūrvapadārthe vibhakyarthānvayena vyabhicārāt | mama tu pratyayānāṃ prakṛtyarthānvitasvārthabodhakatvavyutpatter viśiṣṭottaram eva pratyayotpatter viśiṣṭasyaiva prakṛtitvāt viśiṣṭasyaivārthavattvāc ca na doṣaḥ [212] kiñca rājapuruṣādau rājapadādeḥ saṃbandhini saṃbandhe vā lakṣaṇā | nādyaḥ | rājñaḥ puruṣa iti vivaraṇavirodhāt | vṛttisamānārthavākyasyaiva vigrahatvāt | anyathā tasmāc chaktinirṇayo na syāt | nāntyaḥ | rājasaṃbandharūpapuruṣa ity anvayaprasaṅgāt | nanu tarhi vaiyākaraṇa ity asya vyākaraṇam adhīte iti, pācaka ity asya pacatīti kathaṃ vigrahaḥ | vṛttisamānārthatvābhāvād ity ata āha | ākhyātaṃ taddhitakṛtor yat kiñcid upadarśakam guṇapradhānabhāvādau tatra dṛṣṭo viparyayaḥ || iti taddhitakṛtor yat kiñcid arthabodhakaṃ vivaraṇam ākhyātaṃ tiṅantam iti yāvat | tatra vivaraṇavivriymāṇayor viśeṣyaviśeṣaṇabhāvaviparyayo dṛṣṭa iti | kṛdantaddhitāntayor āśrayaprādhānyam, ākhyāte vyāpārasyeti bodhyam | nanu [213] rathantaraśabdād rathikasyāpi pratyayaḥ kiṃ na syād iti ced, maivam | «rūḍhir yogārtham apaharati» iti nyāyāt | nanu viśiṣṭaśaktisvīkāre paṅkajapadād avayavārthapratītir mā bhūt, samudāyaśaktyaiva kamalapadavat puṣpaviśeṣapratyayaḥ syād iti cet, na | «jahatsvārthā tu tatraiva yatra rūḍhir virodhinī» [214] ity abhiyuktokteḥ, avayavārthasaṃvalitasamudāyārthe padme śaktisvīkārāt | ata eva caturvidhaḥ śabdaḥ | yathā rūḍhaḥ, yogarūḍhaḥ, yaugikaḥ, yaugikarūḍhaś ceti | avayavārtham anapekṣya samudayaśaktimatreṇārthabodhakatvaṃ rūḍhatvam, rathantaram ityādau | avayavārthasaṃvalitasamudāyaśaktyā 'rthabodhakatvaṃ yogarūḍhatvam, paṅkajam ity atra | avayavaśaktyaivārthabodhakatvaṃ yaugikatvam, pācikā, pāṭhiketyādau | avayavaśaktyā samudāyaśaktyā cārthabodhakatvaṃ yaugikarūḍhatvam | maṇḍapānakartṛparo 'pi gṛhaviśeṣaparo 'pi maṇḍapaśabda udāharaṇam iti vivekaḥ | vyapekṣāpakṣe dūṣaṇaṃ śaktisādhakam | harir apy āha | samāse khalu bhinnaiva śaktiḥ paṅkajaśabdavat bahūnāṃ vṛttidharmāṇāṃ vācanair eva sādhane syān mahad gauravaṃ tasmād ekārthībhāva āśritaḥ || iti paṅkajaśabde yogārthasvīkāre śaivalāder api pratyayaḥ syāt | vṛttidharmāḥ viśeṣaṇaliṅgasaṃkhyādyayogādayaḥ «saviśeṣaṇānāṃ vṛttir na...» ityādi vācanair eva sādhyāḥ tattadvacanasvīkāre{tattadvavacana°, éd. Baroda.} eva gauravam | mama tu ekārthībhāvasvīkārād avayavārthābhāvād viśeṣaṇādyayogo nyāyasiddhaḥ, vacanaṃ ca na kartavyaṃ nyāyasiddhaṃ ceti lāghavam | vyapekṣāyāṃ dūṣaṇāntaram āha [215] cakārādiniṣedho 'tha bahuvyutpattibhañjanam kartavyaṃ te nyāyasiddhaṃ tv asmākaṃ tad iti sthitiḥ || ghaṭapaṭāv iti dvandve sāhityadyotakacakāraniṣedhas tvayā kartavyaḥ | ādinā ghanaśyāma ityādau ivaśabdasya | mama tu sāhityādyavacchinne śaktisvīkārāt «uktārthānām aprayogaḥ» iti nyāyāt teṣām aprayogaḥ | bahuvyutpattibhañjanam iti aṣaṣṭḥyarthabahuvrīhau prāptodaka ityādau pṛthakśaktivādināṃ mate prāptikartrabhinnam udakam ityādi bodhottaraṃ tatsaṃbandhigrāmalakṣaṇāyām api udakakartṛkaprāptikarmagrāma ity arthālābhe prāpte prāpteti ktapratyayasya kartrarthakasya karmārthe lakṣaṇā, tato 'pi «samānavibhaktikanāmārthayor abheda eva saṃsargaḥ» iti vyutpattyā udakābhinnaṃ prāptikarmeti syāt | udakasya kartṛtayā prāptāv anvaye tu nāmārthayor abhedānvayavyutpattibhañjanaṃ syād iti tātparyam | «nāmārthaprakārakaśābdabuddhitvāvacchinnaṃ{°prakārakaśabdabuddhi°, éd.
